Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's upcoming interview with Oprah Winfrey on CBS will be filled with references to Harry's late mother Princess Diana, according to promotional material from the network.
One clip from the interview has Harry speaking about how he was relieved to be sitting for the interview so he could talk about his new life away from the royal spotlight. Harry said it had been "unbelievably tough" for him and Markle to survive a lot of negative news - but he also referred to how his mother went through the same thing.
Harry refers often to Diana. In 2019, Harry said in an open letter that he and Markle decided to take some British tabloids to court their reporting following the birth of their son, Archie Harrison.
In that letter, the Duke of Sussex said he was seeing the "same powerful forces" working against Markle. Harry has always blamed the tabloids for his mother's fatal motor accident in 1997.
Meanwhile, Markle also honored the memory of the mother-in-law she never met. According to Page Six, the Duchess of Sussex is wearing Diana's Cartier diamond tennis bracelet which Harry inherited.
Markle wore the Cartier bracelet during the couple's royal tour in 2018 and she in their last royal appearance for Commonwealth Day in March 2019. Some of the stones for the bracelet were also encrusted on the engagement ring she got from Harry.
A representative for the couple told Today they planned to make Diana a part of their first significant televised interview. The couple invited neighbor Winfrey to Montecito, California, home for the interview.
It was filmed in their garden Feb. 16 - the same day Harry's grandfather Prince Philip was taken to a hospital in London for treatment for an infection. According to the Daily Mail, Buckingham Palace found out about the interview on social media. Sources close to Harry said he speaks with his family regularly for updates on Philip's health.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported Prince William was unaware of the Harry and Markle interview. He and Harry haven't spoken for "some time."
None of the royal family is aware of what Harry and Markle told Winfrey but the TV talk show host's friend Gayle King said the couple told her nothing was off-limits.
Harry and Meghan's interview will air on March 7 on CBS in the U.S.
