The American royal Meghan Markle has been living stateside since her marriage to British Prince, Prince Harry for almost a year now. The Duchess of Sussex seems like she has no plan to return to the United Kingdom anytime soon for a long period of time.
When Meghan agreed to marry Prince Harry, she was going to become a working royal in the British Monarchy, but due to the unprecedented events that followed after their nuptials, the two decidedly called it quits in March 2020.
Now, reports have surfaced that the 39-year-old Duchess will have to say goodbye to her dreams of becoming a British Citizen as her and Prince Harry’s decision to leave the country contradicts the government's rules for citizenship application.
In 2018, shortly after the two were married, several sources revealed that Meghan had plans to apply for citizenship and become a dual citizen, holding a US passport and a British passport.
But because the Duchess could not live in the UK for at least three years, these dreams will go down the drain.
Transferring to America was a big leap of faith for the couple as they will have to start from the bottom in the Land of the Free. Their flourishing life in the State of California, US, has ultimately become the biggest factor for Meghan’s decision to drop the UK citizenship petition.
This decision points out to the Duchess and Prince Harry's unlikely return to UK soil for long periods of time. Prince Harry stays a UK citizen, but there are reports that the royal is trying to get US citizenship. This move will cause Harry to sacrifice many things from his previous life, including renouncing his titles altogether.
New hearsays regarding the couple planning a quick trip to the UK has circulated over the week. Several important occasions are to transpire in the Royal Firm this year, such as Queen Elizabeth’s 95th birthday celebrations, Trooping of The Color, Prince Philip’s centennial celebration, and the late Princess Diana’s 60th birthday commemoration.
Royal fans are hoping that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and their 19-month-old son Archie Harrison be in attendance for the said events.
There is no word from the Sussex camp regarding their travel plans for this year, neither has the Palace released an official statement on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visiting the country.
