Arnold Schwarzenegger opened up about the Capitol riots that took place last week in the United States. The 73-year-old actor and former governor of California shared a public video statement on Jan. 10 and condemned the incident.
The actor slammed President Donald Trump, including his supporters and those who supported this violent act. The actor reflected on his childhood that has suffered the loss of democracy and noted that he was born in Austria.
"I'm very aware of Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass. It was a night of rampage against the Jews in carried out in 1938 by the Nazi equivalent of the Proud Boys," he began to explain in his video message.
The actor noted that Jan. 6 marked the night of broken glass in the Capitol. However, the actor said that this time the mob just didn't reach out for the windows but also they also shattered those ideas that were taken for granted.
Schwarzenegger said that those people who entered the Capitol didn't just break the doors of that building, but they also trampled the country's principles. The Conan The Barbarian star said that his birth was after two years of World War II.
He stated that he has witnessed people hiding their faces and living in guilt after participating in such an evil incident. However, he noted that all those tragic incidents took place following a bunch of lies and intolerance.
The actor mentioned his roots in Europe and said that things might go out of control pretty quickly. Schwarzenegger acknowledged the fear people have across the world, including the United States, that something like this might happen again.
Although the actor doesn't believe that it will happen again, he urged everyone to stay away from cynicism and selfishness. Schwarzenegger also spoke about the 45th President and said that he tried to change the fair election results.
The actor further said that Trump attempted to mislead people with a bunch of lies, which eventually led them to this evil incident. Moreover, Schwarzenegger noted that the current president has failed as a leader and will be remembered as the "worst president" in history.
