Most divorces are often contentious because it signifies the end of a relationship. Divorces with lots of money involved are doubly so. But Kim Kardashian is, reportedly, doing her best to make her separation from Kanye West an amicable one.
Life & Style reports that Kardashian is, reportedly, trying to ensure that her divorce with West happens as peacefully as possible. The publication quotes a source saying that Kardashian has the kids foremost in her mind, which is why she wants to separate with West on good terms.
The source added that Kardashian truly thinks that West has been a good father to their four kids -- North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm -- and that she still wants him involved in raising them. This, said the source, is why Kardashian wants the divorce to happen without any complications.
This is perhaps why Us Magazine reports that Kardashian is supposedly working on a settlement deal with West first before filing the divorce papers. The publication says that both the Kardashian and West camps are already talking about settlements even before the papers have been filed.
While the media outlet has no idea on who will be representing West, it reports that Kardashian has gotten the services of Laura Wasser, who also handled Kardashian’s divorce from basketball player Kris Humphries back in 2011.
Aside from Kardashian’s divorce, Wasser has also handled the split of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. The Anna Faris and Chris Pratt split was also another case that Wasser handled.
The settlement talks could be a particularly contentious affair as Kardashian and West have a $2 billion fortune between the two of them. While the couple probably has a prenuptial agreement in place, they still have around $70 million in shared assets that they would have to split between the two of them.
If Kardashian and West want an amicable divorce that they can pattern their own after, they can look to the split between Clark Gregg and Jennifer Grey. The couple ended their 19-year marriage last year and expressed that the separation is amicable and that they continue to love each other.
The settlement that the former couple agreed on awarded all of the Dirty Dancing and Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights residuals to Grey. Fifty percent of Gregg’s earnings playing the role of Agent Coulson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe also went to Grey.
Gregg and Grey have also agreed to share ownership of their New York home, with earnings of any future sale to be split evenly between the two of them.
