Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are being urged to renounce their titles after signing a podcast deal with Spotify.
While speaking with Sky News, Policy Exchange fellow Calvin Robinson said that it is highly likely for the couple to tackle political issues.
And since royals aren’t supposed to get involved in politics, Prince Harry and Markle should consider renouncing their titles.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are no longer considered as senior working royals.
But Queen Elizabeth didn’t strip them of their royal titles. However, they are no longer called HRH Prince Harry and HRH Meghan Markle.
“They're looking to make a podcast on racial injustice, gender equality, environmental stewardship, youth employment, mental health, and commentary on topics of current and general interest,” Robinson said.
The Policy Exchange fellow added that Prince Harry and Markle’s podcast makes it seem as though two of the most privileged individuals in the world are trying to lecture the public on how they should live.
Robinson said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s podcast move is hilarious. After all, no one can say that Prince Harry and Markle are not political.
Despite the backlash, it was business as usual for Prince Harry and Markle.
This week, the couple released their first podcast to cap off 2020.
The first episode of their podcast was used to thank the healthcare workers and front liners for their sacrifices amid the coronavirus pandemic.
They also played a recorded greeting from Elton John and his family.
Other guests include Tyler Perry, Deepak Chopra, James Cordon, Naomi Osaka, and more.
Prince Harry and Markle also said that love wins despite everything that’s been happening in the world.
According to CNN, this was the couple’s way of hinting at the royal family’s rift.
Before the 35-minute episode ended, Prince Harry and Markle’s son made a special appearance on the podcast.
The Suits alum asked Archie if it’s fun, and he repeated the word fun.
Archie also managed to greet the listeners a Happy New Year.
The end of the podcast episode featured the song “This Little Light of Mine,” which was played at Prince Harry and Markle’s wedding in 2018.
The Sussexes tied the knot at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
And a year later, they welcomed their son, Archie.
The couple would’ve welcomed their second child next year if Markle didn’t suffer a miscarriage in July.
