Wonder Woman 1984 recently released in the theater, and the studio has already announced the third installment of the movie. Yes, Warner Bros. confirmed that Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins are coming back together for the upcoming installment of the franchise.
The development process of the DC Comics is on a roll, and it will mark the superhero trilogy for Jenkins. Moreover, the studio revealed that the third installment of the superhero movie would get a traditional release.
“As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince driving the strong opening weekend performance of ‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ we are excited to be able to continue her story with our real-life Wonder Women," Warner Bros. chief Toby Emmerich said in the statement referring to the 35-year-old actress and the 49-year-old director.
Amid the pandemic, many people chose to watch the recent installment of Wonder Woman in the comfort and safety of their home. However, the movie has surprisingly generated a whopping amount from 2,100 North American theaters, $16.7 million.
The superhero film has marked the best opening ever received following the pandemic situation. The movie was also released on HBO Max, and the studio mentioned that the online streaming platform's more than half subscribers already watched the film on Christmas, which was the first day of the show.
In fact, there are more people watching the film through wireless and cable access. The platform was originally launched under the lockdown period and already gained 12.6 million users. Head of Warner Media’s direct-to-consumer business, Andy Forssell, said that the recent release had broken all the records.
Wonder Woman 1984 has exceeded the platform's expectations within 24 hours of the release time. Moreover, Forssell said that as the momentum and interest are analyzed, the film should continue to gain similar viewers over the weekend.
He further noted that it feels amazing to provide families with an option to enjoy such an uplifting movie during difficult times. He also noted that this was important because it wasn't possible for everyone to reach theaters. However, the studio hasn't shared any further details about the final chapter, which has been delayed several times during the pandemic.
It starred Kristen Wiig, who played a Cheetah, Chris Pine portrayed Diana Prince's love interest named Steve Trevor, and Max Lord is played by Pedro Pascal, who is an over-the-top businessman. Gadot will be seen portraying Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder's Justice League in 2021 on HBO Max.
