Barbadian pop superstar now turned entrepreneur, Rihanna, allegedly, used King Khan and Saba Lou's song called Good Habits (and Bad) illegally on a promotional video for Fenty.
The charges pressed against Rihanna
The founder of Fenty is facing a lawsuit for copyright infringement by the Canadian singers' King Khan and his daughter Saba Lou after noticing the singer using their songs without permission. The case is up on Rihanna's Fenty Beauty ad, tagging along the song titled Good Habits (and Bad).
NME reported that the duo accused the Love The Way You Lie singer of not having the permission to use the said track, of which the father-daughter tandem wrote for Saba's 2012 7-inch Until The End.
Moreover, the copyright infringement so happened when Rihanna illegally used the song on her Instagram, promoting Fenty Beauty's products.
The lawsuit filed by the duo demands for Rihanna to never use the song under any circumstances and pays them the damages she has caused. The damages and the exact mount were not specified, but Pitchfork stated that the lawsuit is strong.
The suit specifies that the Fenty Beauty promotional video was viewed over 3.4 million times, which may mean a higher payment for Rihanna to King Khan and Saba Lou.
Meanwhile, Rihanna has not responded to any of the accusations thrown at her party towards its business venture. At the same time, the team of the Canadian duo that sued Rihanna refused to input further remarks to the case.
However, according to RouteNote, the promotional ad for Fenty Beauty was removed on site, as the case is slated to progress as the holiday season passes.
