Stephen Jackson and Lil Baby came together to celebrate George Floyd's daughter, Gianna's birthday. Yes, the 26-year-old rapper and the 42-year-old NBA basketball player sponsored the huge birthday celebration of the seven-year-old girl along with William Platt and Atlanta restaurateurs Ericka.
The birthday was celebrated at Atlanta's Pink Hotel while the social distancing measures were followed. It was a L.O.L. dolls surprise themed celebration while the basketball player, the rapper, and Future's children were also present.
This birthday marked Gianna's first celebration without her father, who passed away on May 25. The tragic death took place when the police officer in Minneapolis kept his knee on Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes, and the entire footage was captured by the people.
It went viral on the internet, and soon it sparked Black Lives Matter protests across the nation to bring racial justice. It's been months since the police brutality has been called out by many celebrities, and now, a bunch of popular faces has joined hands to celebrate the seventh birthday.
As per Forbes, the idea of celebrating the little one's birthday has been in the works for a long time. It was in July when Gianna first time visited a restaurant owned by Ericka and Platt to see her family friends. The NBA star is close to The Platt family, who brainstormed the idea of celebrating her birthday.
“This is a very difficult time for my daughter, so we’re very grateful that our extended family is creating such a special experience for Gianna on her first birthday without her father,” Roxie Washington, Gianna’s mother, said.
Jackson revealed that he was Floyd's friend and Gianna's godfather. He explained that it feels like he has adopted one more child and thanked God for allowing him to do so. Jackson further said that he is going to do his best for the little one.
Moreover, the sports star took his Instagram to post pictures of the birthday celebration on his stories. Previously, the National Basketball Association star had shared an adorable video in June of Gianna sitting on his shoulders.
The video was posted when the Black Lives Matter protests were at their peak and on the streets. It was a touching video as the little one threw her hands in the air and confirmed that her father changed the world. Other celebs, such as Kanye West, also came forward to pay college funds and confirmed that he would cover all her tuition fees.
