BLACKPINK's THE SHOW faces a deferment, as announced by the K-pop queens themselves—Rose, Lisa, Jennie, and Jisoo.
BLACKPINK made the announcement
The sole reason why BLACKPINK goes to defer the date of its online concert is the extreme and stricter social distancing measures mandated by the government. The matter is in the decision of YG Entertainment to vigorously fight the spread of COVID-19 on its staff and artists.
That said, due to the rapid growth of COVID-19 positive in South Korea, BLACKPINK's THE SHOW will be postponed until next year, 2021. The South Korean all-girl group made the saddening announcement through a video uploaded on the queens' official Youtube channel.
Moreover, the girls disclosed that the concert would be deferred to Jan. 31, 2021, instead of Dec. 27, per Allkpop. The agitating decision came into effect when the agency and the band saw how complicated it is to hold a concert this time that the cases of COVID-19 are rising.
Hellokpop reported that South Korea mandated to prohibit more than ten people for mass gatherings from Dec. 11 to Dec. 28, leading the agency to come up with the decision—delaying the event.
Moreover, on Twitter, BLACKPINKOFFICIAL [@BLACKPINK] posted the announcement that reads, "#BLACKPINK: THE SHOW now has a NEW DATE." It also wrote the new date below the concert's title and fans' live streaming chances via Youtube.
Here are what the band has to say
The virtual event of BLACKPINK is through its entertainment agency and concert subdivision at the PALM STAGE, where it's previously reported that the concert will be live, but without any audience. The show marks PALM STAGE's first production and a great partnership with Youtube.
"Through our concert, we wanted to give you some sort of comfort during these difficult times," the band said. BLACKPINK then continued that their utmost necessity is everyone's safety and health that will take part in THE SHOW. Hence, the agency's decision and the group to postpone the concert are to provide a safe environment for everyone.
The Ice Cream singers and rappers also took their time to express their thankfulness to the medical staff that works hard during the pandemic, risking their lives to help people in need.
Meanwhile, according to NME, BLINKS can attend the concert virtually by purchasing a paid subscription to BLACKPINK's official Youtube channel to get access to the show. The streaming platform will open the page an hour before the concert will commence and strictly follow all the guidelines written on the streaming guide.
