Blake Shelton recently opened up about how his fiance Gwen Stefani nearly ruined their engagement news during a virtual TV appearance. The adorable couple announced their engagement on their social media accounts in Oct., much to their fans' and followers' delight.
The 44-year-old country music star opened up on Thursday in an interview with Seth Meyers when the talk show host noted that Stefani had made an appearance on his show just a day before posting about their engagement on social media. During Thursday's episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers, the host told Shelton that he has a small grievance that the very next day, Stefani announced on Instagram that they have been engaged.
Meyers, 46, said that their engagement news was kind of content that they could have really had a lot of fun with. Shelton pointed out that the "Hollaback Girl" singer was actually sporting her engagement ring during the interview, which Meyers failed to notice. Raising his left hand to his face, Shelton said she kept doing this with her hand.
The Oklahoma native also noted that Stefani wondered if viewers would figure out that she was wearing a ring. Much to their relief, the No Doubt frontwoman's new bling appeared to be a part of her jewelry collection and no one noticed it, Us Weekly reported. Shelton poked a joke at his longtime girlfriend, saying she wears more jewelry than Mr. T, so there's a slim chance anybody noticed it.
Shelton called out Meyers for not figuring it out, despite Stefani giving him several hints. The Saturday Night Live alum attributed his inability to pick the hints to virtual interviews, saying it is hard over Zoom because he doesn't want to look like he is staring. Meyers noted that as a host, he ends up looking more at the camera than at the guests before admitting that he missed it, although it was right in front of him.
In 2015, Us Weekly revealed that The Voice coaches were dating after meeting on the set of the singing competition. After dating for five years, the couple announced their engagement after Shelton popped the question in Oklahoma with a fully customized ring. The pair was quarantining at Shelton's Oklahoma ranch amid the coronavirus pandemic.
