The YG Entertainment-formed and managed South Korean all-girl group BLACKPINK reminded the BLINKS how climate change affects nature's beauty and purpose by promoting the United Nations summit conference slated next year.
BLACKPINK speak up against climate change
In an Allkpop report, the promotional video by BLACKPINK for the United Nations conference is a serious matter. There, Lisa, Jisoo, Jennie, and Rose, calls out their beloved fans, who call themselves BLINKS, to stand with them in doing the necessary actions to fight climate change.
BLACKPINK utilized the "BLACKPINK in your area," commonly used by the girl band on its songs, as a tag that everyone, not just the BLINKS, should take action in their area.
The video was uploaded on BLACKPINK's official Youtube channel on Dec. 9 (Wednesday), as the group shared insights and their respective thoughts towards the United Nations' goal. Highlighting climate change, Soompi stated that the 2:02-minute video kicked off with snippets of BLACKPINK's performances during its previous concerts.
It comes after a square pink figure exploded through the music of DDU-DU-DU DDU-DU-DU in the background.
The girls first introduced themselves as BLACKPINK and then paved the way for Jennie to share her thoughts on the timely topic. The SOLO singer said that the world is hearing issues about the climate recently; Rose continued the talk by saying they are not experts, but they genuinely care about the planet.
"We learned that the world is changing," Jennie said. With all the unusual natural phenomenons happening on Earth, natural habitats are destroyed.
Jisoo took her turn to talk by saying the matter and added that the planet is losing the natural habitats faster. Rapper Lisa highlighted that when she was born in 1997, 46% of the Earth was made up of natural habitats, but for the time being, only 35% remains.
BLACKPINK invites support for the UN Climate Change Conference UK 2021
The rest of the video had the femme fatale promote the UN Climate Change Conference UK 2021, also known as COP26. The conference will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from November 1-12, 2021.
The purposeful video was made possible by the band's partnership with the British Embassy in Seoul, South Korea. It comes ahead the fifth anniversary of the historic Paris Agreement on climate change this coming Dec. 12 (Saturday).
World leaders and high-ranking officials will attend COP26 to tackle their goals to prevent further damage brought by the shifting climate. It is still unclear if BLACKPINK will speak at the summit, but fans hope that their idols will do so.
