The Queen’s Christmas Speech is an awaited event by many Britons. In the past speeches made by the Queen, the monarch addresses the nation's important matters that have happened in the past 12 months.
There are speculations that Her Majesty will not talk about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit and the loss of their second child.
Royal expert Marlene Koenig shares to Express UK that the probability of Her Majesty addressing Harry and Markle’s experiences are very low, instead she believes that Queen Elizabeth will focus on the Covid Pandemic and the actions taken by the government.
Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas speeches have been televised for decades now, and most of the time it is a source of several speculations due to the photos that are displayed on Her Majesty’s table.
Last year, there were rumors of the Queen and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle falling out due to the couple not being part of the photos displayed during the Queen’s speech.
During this time, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have yet to announce their plans to sever their ties with the royal firm.
Koenig explained that the pictures on the Queen’s table are not a gauge of her relationship with royal members. Apparently, the photographs to be displayed are special occasions and those that are in the direct line for succession.
This explains why in 2018, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding was exhibited, but in 2019 only Prince Philip, Prince Charles, and Prince William and family can be seen.
"If you look at Christmas speech photos throughout the years, the focus is usually on the direct line of succession. Last year included Charles as well as the Queen’s father but sometimes special events such as a wedding and in 2018, a photo from Harry and Meghan was included,” Koenig explained.
Furthermore, there are other more momentous occasions that have happened within the Royal Firm in the past year, such as Princess Beatrice’s wedding to Edoardo Mozzi. Koenig believes that their wedding is going to be exhibited in this year's Christmas speech.
It has yet to be confirmed where the Queen will be doing her speech, but it is most likely that Windsor Castle will be hosting this event, a first in many years.
The Queen’s winter holiday festivities are happening in Windsor this year as well, despite the royal tradition of celebrating it in Sandringham Palace.
Her Majesty continued to work and serve the Britons, and her speech is much awaited to raise the morale of the British Empire.
