While this year has been difficult for many people, including celebrities, it seems there is some bright light for Kelly Clarkson. Yes, the 38-year-old singer and songwriter have finally won her kids' primary custody amid her ongoing divorce proceedings with Brandon Blackstock.
According to multiple reports, the musician and the talk show host will have both her children, son Remington Alexander Blackstock, 4, and daughter River Rose Blackstock, 6. The 43-year-old former manager and husband have asked Clarkson, following the custody judgment, to provide him $436,000 in monthly spousal support.
A source revealed that Brandon has been unreasonable with his requests for spousal and child support. Moreover, he asked for attorney fees. On the other hand, the singer had offered to take care of her children's expenses completely.
However, it didn't settle well with Brandon, and he further asked for $135K in child support and $301K in spousal support every month. If the request of Clarkson's ex-husband is approved, then the singer will end up paying more than $5.2 million every year.
Previously, Brandon sought $2M for attorney fees after hiring seven attorneys and raising the cost for no reason per source. The singer planned to stay in Los Angeles while her estranged husband wanted to live in Montana, where the family had quarantined together.
"The court finds that the minor children are not now and have not been residents of Montana and that California is their home state," the judge said as per court documents. However, the court decided that Blackstock will get his children on the first, third, and fifth weekend every month.
Although he has to travel to Los Angeles to visit his children, which states that Clarkson won the primary custody of her children, disso Queen Laura Wasser, who represents the singer, argued in the court that Clarkson feels Brandon will "detrimental" the children, which was accepted by the judge.
The singer filed for divorce in June to end their almost seven years of marriage. During the filing, the former couple asked for joint physical and legal custody of their kids together. It is worth noting that Blackstock already has the responsibility for two more older kids from his previous marriage.
However, the documents mentioned that the former couple doesn't seem to come to a mutual agreement regarding their children's custody and as a result, co-parenting isn't possible between them. The document also stated that the conflict between both parties has increased because of trust issues.
