The news of Meghan Markle’s miscarriage last July has sent a flurry of sympathy towards the Duchess of Sussex and husband Prince Harry.
An article shared by the Duchess herself for the New York Times reveals the heartbreak upon realizing they have lost their second child has cast a light on the royals' human side.
Birmingham Mail reveals that Charles Spencer, uncle of Prince Harry and a close confidante, has spoken up about the unfortunate news. He shared in Lorraine Kelly’s ITV1 his grief and sadness for the couple, and he wishes all the love to the couple.
In light of this shocking news, Buckingham Palace revealed that the royal family has known about the news for months. But regarding comments from the Queen on the sad news, there will be none.
The royal family has also been briefed on the couple’s plans to share their public experience. According to the Dailybeast, all members were briefed about the article but will not be sharing any of their views.
“The office of Queen Elizabeth said she would be making no comment on the ‘deeply personal’ issue. Prince Charles’ spokesperson said he would not be commenting on the ‘private’ issue. Prince William’s office said they would not comment,” an excerpt from an issued statement of Buckingham Palace.
Allegedly, the royal family is supporting the couple in private and has since sent their good wishes and love to Harry and Meghan upon hearing the news from them in July.
Despite the royals discouraging discussing private and personal matters to the public, this is one of the exceptions made by the Royal Firm.
New York Times explains that Meghan Markle shared her unfortunate experience in the article ‘The Loses We Share’ has a great impact on breaking the ‘taboo’ that surrounds miscarriages.
It also encourages parents to not undergo ‘solo mourning,’ which is harmful mentally and emotionally to those involved in traumatic events.
Meghan Markle wrote details of the miscarriage in her article, including the moment it happened, which was during their son Archie Harrison’s nappy change.
The Duchess writes that there was a ‘sudden cramp,’ and she already knew what happened. She then sat down and sang Archie a lullaby to calm the both of them.
Prince Harry’s reaction to the miscarriage was ‘heartbreaking’ the Duchess revealed, as the Prince tried to pick up the broken pieces of Meghan while mourning their unborn child.
