Prince William and Kate Middleton’s relationship is considered one of the most successful royal relationships in the modern-day. But to get where they are now, the pair had to go through all the steps of becoming a couple.
It is no secret that Prince William’s lovely wife was first and foremost one of his closest friends in University. Apparently, the 2nd-in-line to the throne saw Kate as a friend at first.
But this was a good foundation for their future roles. The then friends were said to have bonded over their love for sports and the outdoors.
One event at the University of St. Andrews changed William’s outlook towards Kate Middleton. In a fundraising fashion event held at the University, Kate was invited to walk the runway. Prince William, of course, was invited and actually paid $300 for the event.
Kate was amicable, one of the ‘hottest’ women who walked down the runway. She was modeling black skimpy underwear covered with a sheer black dress, which apparently was supposed to be a skirt, but the Duchess had something else in mind.
This moment sealed William’s attraction to Kate, and he was heard telling a close friend of his during the event that Kate looked hot.
Later on, they became an official couple, much to the surprise of everyone. Royal biographers are also citing Kate’s ‘wicked sense of humor’ that attracted Prince William to her.
"They got on well and shared an interest in sport and the outdoors, as well as a 'naughty' sense of humor," A source told The Mail over the weekend.
Their relationship upon becoming public became an obsession for the UK media, and, allegedly, the reason why Prince William wanted to be friends with Kate first before making her his girlfriend is for her to get accustomed to all the publicity that comes with dating a Prince.
The two’s relationship is not exactly perfect as they also had break-ups and fights, but the pair did end up being each other’s confidant for over nine years before William popped the million-dollar question.
Because of this, Kate was dubbed as ‘Waity Katy’ by the media, but in William’s defense, his goal was for Kate Middleton to really have a chance to back out when she wanted to.
In their engagement interview, the Prince explained why it took so long for them to get engaged, and all of it was because he did not want to lose Kate.
