Jonathan Bennett is all set to release his first gay couple movie on the Hallmark Channel, The Christmas House. The 39-year-old actor will represent the LGBTQ community for the first time on-screen as a lead character in his forthcoming venture.
Holiday films are often based on the family that showcases characters who are straight or probably a bunch of friends. It seems Bennett is creating a new benchmark for holiday movies with his upcoming holiday movie.
The actor will be seen as the love interest of Brad Harder, and it also features Robert Buckley and Ana Ayora. During an interview with ET, the actor co-hosting with Lauren Zima opened up about the movie and how it will create a positive impact.
The Cheaper by the Dozen 2 star said that this film is essential in his career as it marks a progressive state of mind in filmmaking. The actor recalled his childhood and said that it is unbelievable to watch any holiday movie with such a plot.
"I can only imagine what younger me would have thought seeing a Christmas movie with a storyline like this, two men in love, having a baby together. I think I would have been so excited, and I know I'm excited," he explained.
He noted that representing a particular community can be so important. Moreover, the actor considers it an honor to deliver such LGBTQ friendly movie on Hallmark Channel. It seems that the actor is truly indulged in creating history.
The actor will be seen in the Christmas Con, which is slated to be held virtually due to the ongoing pandemic. The event will telecast on Hallmark Channel, and the dates of the event are Dec. 5, 6, 12, and 13.
Kristoffer Polaha, Jen Lilley, Drew Seeley, Erin Cahill, Ashley Williams, Cindy Busby, Autumn Reeser, Bennett, Will Kemp, Andrew Walker, Joey Lawrence, and Melissa Joan Hart are the first group of celebrity participants in the event.
The event will also allow fans to sit in the comfort of their homes and chit-chat with their favorite celebrity on a video call, and later they can purchase the footage online. Besides celebs, people can also have a meeting with Santa Claus through video calls during the event.
While many platforms such as Netflix, Lifetime, and Hallmark has been delivering holiday movies, it seems Bennett's upcoming film is going to bring the much-needed change to gay movies and their representation on-screen.
