Michael J. Fox discussed in a candid interview his battle with Parkinson’s disease and how it created an impact on his kids and family. Looking back at his career, the 59-year-old actor has worked in movies such as Back to the Future and Stuart Little.
However, it seems the actor had to return to writing books again due to his health issues. The actor had published his first book in 2002 and also released two more books in continuation. In an interview with ET, Fox opened up about the professional struggle that left him with no other option but writing.
Fox admitted that he has been dealing with the disease for over 30 years since he first got diagnosed in 1991. The actor explained that he worked around his neurodegenerative disorder while filming and eventually got used to it.
Although he later found having a tumor in his spine, because of which he went under surgery. The actor revealed that it was a major operation, which took a toll on him. Fox went under the knife in 2018 but couldn't get the tumor out of his spine.
Instead, the actor got paralysis, due to which he had to learn walking all over again. The A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Future author recalled when he shattered his arm as he fell in his own apartment. Fox explained how he questioned himself on guiding others in his book about being optimistic in life.
"Their misery might be far greater than mine, but I'm lying on the floor waiting for the ambulance to come, and I'm not happy," he added. His latest book, No Time Like the Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality is issued on Nov. 17, which was majorly completed amid COVID-19 lockdown.
The actor was quarantined on Long Island with his family. The second fall of the Fox marked when he broke his bone and stopped looking at life in an optimistic way for a while. However, he mentioned the details about his way back to recovery and optimism in his second book, Always Looking Up: The Adventures of an Incurable Optimist.
Eventually, he admitted it was acceptance, humor, and optimism that helped him to get back at life. Although he disclosed that it still takes him about five minutes just to put on a pair of socks, but otherwise, Fox said he feels like having the spirit of a teenager.
