Antoine Fuqua's 'The Guilty' is going to add some new characters and popular faces to the Netflix thriller. The giant streaming platform is all set to rope in A-list stars and True Detective fame writer Nic Pizzolatto on board.
Jake Gyllenhaal will be joined by Paul Dano, Christina Vidal, David Castañeda, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Byron Bowers, Riley Keough, Peter Sarsgaard, and Ethan Hawke. As per the reports, the deal has been done for $30 million, which allowed the streaming platform to get such a popular cast under one roof.
While Fuqua is helming the project written by Pizzolatto, it is based on Den Skyldige that was based on a Danish drama, Gustav Moller. The drama was first premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2018. The series will revolve around the 911 dispatch center during morning time with a calling agent portrayed by Gyllenhaal.
The character will try to save the caller who is apparently in danger; however, the 39-year-old actor will soon realize that things are different than it seems on call and discover the truth. Edi Patterson, Beau Knapp, Bill Burr, and Adrian Martinez will also join the cast members while Gyllenhaal is taking care of the production for Nine Stories along with Riva Marker, Kat Samick, and Fuqua for Fuqua Films.
David Haring from Amet Entertainment, Svetlana Metkina, David Litvak, Gary Michael Walters, Michel Litvak from Bold Films, is also involved in the production process. Justin Bursch, Eric Greenfeld, Jon Oakes, Christian Mercuri, Lina Flint, Gustav Moller, Annie Marter, and Pizzolatto will serve as executive producers.
Gyllenhaal was first announced to work in Den Skyldige's remake in 2018, which garnered awards and appreciation by the world cinema audience. Moreover, it was also honored with one of the best five movies in a foreign language by the National Board of Review in the same year.
On the other hand, Hawke has been starred in Boyhood and First Reformed, while Sarsgaard will be seen in the forthcoming, The Batman and The Looming Tower. Keough has earned credit for The Devil All the Time and Mad Max: Fury Road while she also gained a lot of attention in the film festivals for comedy-drama Zola.
The title role was portrayed by Taylour Paige and helmed by Janicza Bravo. Although the film was supposed to release in early 2020, it has been pushed further due to the ongoing pandemic. However, fans seemed pretty excited since Netflix has announced the cast of Gyllenhaal-led upcoming project.
