It looks like those waiting with bated breath for Wentworth Miller to return to the hit Fox series Prison Break as Michael Scofield is in for a long wait. The 48-year-old actor has confirmed that he isn't interested in portraying straight characters and is officially done with the show.
Taking to his official Instagram account, Miller revealed that he doesn't plan to reprise his role as the fan-favorite character on the popular series. Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn hinted at a possibility of another season of Prison Break during TCA, back in Jan. this year.
Even if that comes to fruition, Miller is sure he does not want to be a part of the series anymore. On his social media platform, the actor thanked his followers for supporting him and opened up about the LGBTQ community getting bullied. He even spoke about the possibility of a new season of the show, noting that he is officially out of PB, Deadline reported.
He went on to explain that his decision to exit the show is not because of static on social media but attributed it to his decision to stop playing straight characters as their stories have already been told several times. Admitting that the news is likely to disappoint his fans and the massive fanbase of the show, Miller said he was sorry.
He concluded the message, noting that if the show's fans were disappointed because they loved Michael, a fictional straight man portrayed by a real gay man, he can't help them. His PB co-star Dominic Purcell took to the comments section to show his support and noted that he fully understands his reasoning.
Purcell said he was glad that Miller decided and urged him to keep posting on his social media account. Purcell plays the role of Lincoln, Miller's character's brother. Michael is bent on getting Lincoln out of the same prison he designed after being sentenced to death for a crime he did not even commit, Entertainment Weekly reported.
Sarah Wayne Callies also supported Miller on Instagram, noting that she is voicing her support for the actor with deep love and gratitude for the work they did together. She went on to tell the fans of Prison Break that the cast of the show is a queer-friendly space and that they stand with and among their friends and family in the LGBTQ+ community with full support for their rights.
