Princess Diana (Emma Corrin) will be featured in The Crown for the first time in Season 4.
Ahead of the premiere, the Australian actress talked about the Princess Diana fever. And she also shared some of the things she learned about the late royal while portraying her character in the Netflix series.
While speaking with Closer UK, Corrin said that portraying the role of Princess Diana gave her the opportunity to get to know the late royal as she would a friend. Corrin also said that she got a sense of companionship from the Princess of Wales.
However, Corrin also said that she can’t help but notice that Princess Diana had an awful fashion sense. And since she had to dress up just like her, Corrin said that she wanted to cry.
Corrin also talked about Princess Diana that she got to know before the late royal dated Prince Charles. The actress said that she had the most fun playing the role of a teenage Princess Diana because of her sense of fun.
The actress said that the only way for people to understand who the older Princess Diana is if they also understand the 19-year-old Princess of Wales who lived with her flatmates and went on her first date with Prince Charles.
In the teaser for The Crown, Princess Diana is seen roller skating inside the palace grounds. Corrin said that she believes the late royal really did that because she had this sense of fun before she became a royal. And this sense of fun was quite rare.
Prior to portraying the role of Princess Diana, Corrin also did her research to get to know the kind of life Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom lived. Corrin came across some royal traditions and rules as to how Princess Diana should behave.
The actress said that some of the royal traditions just didn’t make any sense. And she couldn’t help but wonder why the royal family is still doing them.
Corrin also said that Princess Diana’s wedding dress had to be sewn around her, and it was such an amazing experience.
Princess Diana’s eating disorder will also be highlighted in Season 4. And according to Daily Mail, there will be a warning ahead of the episode that will depict the late royal’s battle with bulimia.
Meanwhile, Princess Diana’s arrival into the royal family isn’t the only storyline that The Crown fans are looking forward to. The arrival of Margaret Thatcher (Gillian Anderson) is another interesting thing that the series will tackle in Season 4.
Thatcher had a complicated relationship with Queen Elizabeth. And in the teaser, the two women are exchanging their thoughts. And it appears as though the queen is threatened by Thatcher’s strong personality.
