Princess Diana made headlines this week after one tabloid claimed to know what her dying wish was.
According to In Touch Weekly, the Princess of Wales has always been vocal about her desire to see Prince William ascend the throne.
And since Princess Diana and Prince Charles weren’t on good terms due to the latter’s affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, the late royal didn’t think that her ex-husband was suited to be king.
A source told the tabloid that Prince Charles already has tons of insecurities. And hearing Princess Diana’s dying wish in the documentary Diana: The Truth Behind the Interview will allegedly destroy him.
In conclusion, the tabloid claimed that Princess Diana’s Panorama interview from 1995 could be her revenge from the grave after everything that she had to put through with Prince Charles and the royal family.
However, Gossip Cop took a closer look at the interview and what Princess Diana said years ago. Interviewer Martin Bashir asked the late royal if she wanted Prince William to be king.
And Princess Diana said that her son is still too young at that time. She also said that she didn’t want to burden him like that and put too much pressure on him at such a young age. The Princess of Wales also told Bashir that she can’t give a straight answer to his question.
Nowhere in the interview did the Princess of Wales declare that she wants Prince William to be king. And she didn’t also tell Bashir that she didn’t think Prince Charles is fit to take over the throne.
What Bashir asked Princess Diana was if she thinks Prince Charles will ever be king. And the late royal simply said that she doesn’t know the answer to the question.
“But who knows, who knows what fate will produce, who knows what circumstances will provoke?” she said.
Gossip Cop also stressed the fact that to see Prince William ascend the throne wasn’t Princess Diana’s dying wish. After all, her life in the public was already, reportedly, horrific that there was no longer any space for her to expound on her dying wish.
And even though Princess Diana was one of the most loved members of the royal family, she doesn’t have any say when it comes to the Order of Succession. In fact, even Queen Elizabeth doesn’t have any say in it.
After all, the Order of Succession states that the queen’s firstborn child is the one that will succeed her after she passes away.
