Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II are currently living at Windsor Castle amid the COVID-19 outbreak. However, the Duke of Edinburgh is usually fond of living elsewhere.
The Duke of Edinburgh and Queen Elizabeth are now staying together for several weeks at Windsor Castle. They are doing so after the Government announced stringent measures for social distancing because of the global health crisis last month.
While the monarch reached the castle on Mar. 19, her husband joined her shortly after. They usually live at separate locations and would typically reunite only during the Easter holidays each year.
The royal couple, though, is living together for over a month now, which is not quite ordinary, especially, at this time of year. The Duke of Edinburg, 98, is fonder of spending his time on Her Majesty’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
It is said that Prince Philip loves to lead a quieter life at the farm and indulges in activities such as painting watercolors and reading. An old friend pointed out that the Duke loves leading a blissful life away from the spotlight and cameras. This is the reason why Her Majesty and her husband spend less time together.
If there was no outbreak of the deadly virus, Queen Elizabeth’s husband would possibly be still living at Wood Farm. On the other hand, the Queen would have been in Buckingham Palace where she lives most of the time, as well as, works full-time, Daily Express reports.
It is interesting to note that the monarch does not see her husband very often after he retired from his royal duties in August 2017. However, Philip is the patron of 785 organizations and is still associated with them.
Meanwhile, to ensure safety during the lockdown period, the Queen and the Duke have reduced their staff and are managing with only about a dozen people. According to a close source, the royal couple gets along quite well and loves each other’s company. While they may not live together for most of the year after the Duke’s retirement, they call each other regularly to keep in touch.
In other news, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, and his wife Melania Trump gave a personalized gift to Philip when they visited the United Kingdom last year. According to another report by Daily Express, the Duke of Edinburgh received gifts on three distinct occasions. The President and his wife gifted him an Air Force One personalized jacket.
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip got married on Nov. 20, 1947. They got married at Westminster Abbey. In 2017, the couple celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary.
