Brooklyn Ninety-Nine just aired its last episodes for season 7, but the fans are already looking for information on season 8!
In the 13th episode and season finale, the beloved characters had to do their duties during a blackout. Add to that is the fact that Amy had gone into labor while Holt and Jeffords were stuck inside an elevator. But by the end of the episode, viewers were introduced to Jake and Amy's new baby Mac, named after John McClane. Digital Spy reports that the couple being parents will definitely play a big part in the next season. Being both cops, and working in the same precinct may bring some complications to their marriage. We may see Jake and Amy learning how to balance their love for their work and their desire to be good parents to their son. Jake, in particular, has had doubts about whether he will be a good father, so it will be interesting to see just how his son will change him.
Another thing that we should definitely be expecting in Brooklyn Ninety-Nine season 8 is the coronavirus pandemic. The fact that the characters are not only frontline workers but are actually in New York, which remains to be the epicenter of the pandemic in the US, there is just no escaping that the pandemic will be included in the plot. The Hollywood Reporter was able to interview showrunner Dan Goor and actor Andy Samberg about season 8 and what has been discussed in the table so far.
While there was a suggestion that they could have a plot where the coronavirus was cured after two weeks, this was quickly discarded because it would seem that the show is no longer connected or portraying issues from the real world. The writers are going to see whether they will have one of the characters or a relative be infected with COVID-19. This will be the most realistic as apparently 1 in 5 police officers have become sick.
One thing they will have to do is to balance the seriousness of the situation with humor. More than anything, people watch Brooklyn Ninety-Nine because they want to laugh and the writers are looking into how they will do it for season 8.
Viewers might even be able to see Gina in the next season. After all, Digital Spy reports that she is the one regret that Goor had for season 7 so he is definitely making sure that Gina Linetti will have an episode in Brooklyn Ninety-Nine season 8.
