Trump’s campaign has a reputation for taking Joe Biden's quotes from his speech, out of context, and use them to claim he isn't fit for office. Living up to its reputation, the campaign's war room took quotes from the former vice president's quote from an encyclical to suggest he had no idea why he was running for president.
Despite receiving backlash for the video on social media, it looks like Team Trump isn't willing to stop using this strategy. Keeping in line with that, President Donald Trump and his campaign have deviated their focus on sharing another misleading video that implies Biden isn't aware of who is running against.
This video, which the Trump campaign has shared on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, has been viewed by millions of netizens. On top of that, none of the tech companies are taking action against the clip. By Wednesday morning, the clip had been retweeted nearly 9,700 times and had racked up about 2 million views.
The president has been playing this clip at his campaign rallies across the country this week to convince American voters that Biden is mentally unfit for office. His team has been using similar videos to convince voters that the Democratic presidential nominee is not sound minded. While most of these videos are edited, some are simply fake.
As part of their strategy, Trump and his campaign had promoted a video that misleadingly showed that Biden might have endorsed his rival, Trump. CNN later reported that the president and his team had promoted a dishonestly edited video of the former veep that showed him accidentally endorsing Trump.
Paying no heed to the criticism over a fake video of Biden, White House social media director Dan Scavino shared another video that showed Biden falling asleep in a TV interview that never happened. The video has now been disabled by Twitter, citing reports by the copyright owner.
In Sept., the campaign was promoting a clip that shows Biden couldn't remember the Pledge of Allegiance, and there are no prizes for guessing that he did. This week, it posted a clip making it seems like the Democratic nominee said he was running against George Bush, not Trump. The president's supporters have been sharing this video on social media.
A woman interviewed by CNN ahead of Trump's West Salem, Wisconsin event on Tuesday, said Biden is mentally unfit for office, noting that he forgets where he is at, who he is running against, and even what he is running for. This seems to echo Trump and his administration's claims.
