Prince William had to be a painful witness to the marriage breakup of his parents at home, as well as, public reactions to the news. According to one of the royal biographers, the young prince developed a “hooligan” streak while growing up as a result.
William was at Ludgrove Prep School and quite young when he went through the agony of watching his parents’ relationship crumbling. What could have been greater torture for this young prince was that the whole world was aware of what was happening within his family.
The Duke of Cambridge had to bear the agony of his family life grabbing global headlines when his late mother collaborated with Andrew Morton while writing “Diana Her True Story.” He could have been deeply grieved when phone calls made by both his parents to their affair partners and vice-versa were tapped and published.
Robert Johnson wrote a book titled “William’s Princess” in 2006. The author reminisces about the tough time the 11-year-old prince had to face and how he began to rebel at a young age. He mentions that emotional pain and stress took a deep toll on William. The writer also mentioned that each person has a different way of managing stress.
Johnson writes while some people like Prince Harry “retreat into their shells” while facing such situations, the effect on Kate Middleton’s husband was the opposite. The royal author says: “he became rebellious” and neglected his studies. Also, he was “uncharacteristically aggressive” at this point in life, Daily Express reports.
He adds that the Prince was admonished at school for sticking the head of a fellow student “in a school toilet and flushing it.” Johnson also shared that William “was dubbed the Hooligan Prince” during that time.
It was later known that Prince Charles’ elder son became aggressive after he heard the same student making a derogatory comment about his parents. While the headmaster of his school Gerald Barber scolded William, he also showed sensitivity to the increasing problems being faced by his famous student.
It has been nine years since William got married to Kate Middleton. The world saw the couple's spectacular royal wedding ceremony in 2011. The couple is now a happy family with three beautiful kids – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
The Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge appear to be living in marital bliss, which is quite a contraction to the unhappy marriage of his parents Princess Diana and Prince Charles. According to another report by Daily Express, the duo is now getting used to managing the immense attention they get from the public for being senior members of the British Royal Family.
