Actor and comedian Kumail Nanjiani is an optimistic person and loves to bring joy and fun to people. However, the 42-year-old comedian took Twitter to share some real concerns regarding the pandemic. The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail star opened up about how he observed the United States dealing with the coronavirus and compared it to other countries.
Nanjiani's wife, Emily V. Gordon, who is also a writer, is currently at high risk for ongoing coronavirus. The couple wrote the screenplay for a comedy movie, The Big Sick that was nominated for Oscar. The film was based on their real-life relationship while the actor explained further in the tweets' candid series.
Nanjiani started tweeting by addressing himself as an optimistic person and stated that he fought his way to keep everything positive around him for the past couple of months. However, he said that it seems hard for him to stay positive now.
The comedian noted that the country is heading towards a massive coronavirus spike and unfortunately, people who were responsible for protecting the common people are doing absolutely nothing. Moreover, these people in power are blaming common people for being concerned about COVID-19.
The comedian said that everyone has been together in this for almost eight months and revealed that his wife, Gordon, is at high risk. The comedian disclosed that he is feeling led down by the United States but he also stated that he counts himself to be lucky as he wasn't one of those 226,000 people who lost their lives due to the ongoing pandemic.
He further acknowledged that many families got destroyed because of this virus and people lost their jobs and homes while he admitted that all these things seemed "preventable." The comedian compared the United States with other countries and said that when he studies the coronavirus cases and deaths that took place in other countries, it feels like he is living in a completely different world.
The comedian asked if other countries are also dealing with a similar virus or it is something different? He answered that those countries who are healing right now are "dealing with it" rather than politicizing everything.
While the comedian didn't name Donald Trump directly, he addressed the current administration's failure towards serving the people amid pandemic. However, the actor stepped down from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind's reading in March to take precautions.
