While Carrie Underwood has won CMT Music Awards several times before, she accepted her eighth award with great enthusiasm. The 37-year-old singer and songwriter garnered the award in the video of the year category for the Drinking Alone track.
There were other nominees in the category, such as Tanya Tucker and Keith Urban, who were voted out by the fans. The former American Idol winner accepted her award virtually and thanked her fans with immense joy and surprise.
The singer addressed her fans directly and said that they never stop to amaze her with their hard work for her. Underwood showed appreciation for her fans as she mentioned the fans throwing parties on Twitter and also voting.
Underwood further said that this award belongs to her fans, who worked so hard to make it happen. She noted feeling “loved” and once again thank each and everyone for voting for her. CMT also tweeted the acceptance speech of the singer.
"Of course all the winners and nominees tonight, this is something that's so fun for us to visually bring our songs to life, so thank you for all of the support and all of the fans who have been voting for everybody," Underwood added.
She went on to thank the director of the video, Randy St. Nicholas and recalled the amount of fun they had during the making of the track. She also disclosed that it was absolutely easy to do something that you are fond of and then present it to the fans with visuals.
The Let There Be Peace singer thanked the CMT awards for giving away such honors and love. She admitted that more than receiving the award, it is about love. In the past couple of years, the singer has been honored with "video of the year" award for Cry Pretty in 2019, Something in the Water in 2015, See You Again in 2014, Blown Away in 2013, Good Girl in 2012, Cowboy Casanova in 2010, and Before He Cheats released in 2007.
This award marked the 22nd CMT award for Underwood as she turned to be the artist who won the most awards in CMT's history. She won the award for the music track released last year, which was her sixth studio album.
The music video displayed Underwood's performance in cabaret-style. The finalists were revealed on Oct. 21, while before that, Miranda Lambert, Luke Combs, and Kelsea Ballerini were also nominated in the same category.
