“The change brought to so many stories, but especially to those stories, we don’t hear too often -- the stories of Black women. I’m so proud to know that I get to share those stories with my girls one day,” Theron said. The Mad Max: Fury Road star has also been previously honored by the same award.
Theron went on to share her happiness for King while she struggled to address any particular role of King that stands out for her. The actress acknowledged the hard work and changed the Boyz n the Hood star has delivered to this world through her skills.
Holly Robinson Peete also praised the actress for showing the world that being a mother and taking care of professional life is also an option. While the 56-year-old actress was all praises for King, Gabrielle Union revealed how the actress created an impact on her.
The 47-year-old actress opened up about her teenage and said that she grew up watching a sitcom in the 80s titled 277. The show was created by Bill Boulware and C.J. Banks while the cast members included Jackée Harry, Alaina Reed Hall, Hal Williams, Marla Gibbs, along with King.
The 10 Things I Hate About You star said that the role on the show that grabbed her attention was the one she "needed the most" at that time. She said that King portrayed a regular Black teenage girl's character while there was no other character playing a regular Black teenager on television.
Union further said that watching King act and direct is great as she teaches to master in the craft rather than just surviving in the entertainment business. The actress addressed King as "once in a lifetime talent" and said she is grateful to be her friend, be in her leadership, along with sisterhood.
