Prince William is, reportedly, taking over the role of the People’s Prince, which is the male counterpart of Princess Diana’s nickname, the People’s Princess.
In an article for the Daily Telegraph, royal expert Camilla Tominey said that the birth of Prince William’s three children has mellowed him.
“William has always had this ability to connect with people. I remember from some of his earliest engagements how much he reminded me of Diana. He's very natural and not at all fake. He's always had it but I think perhaps he was overshadowed by Harry. Now he's no longer on the scene, we are reminded that William has the same qualities in spades,” Tominey wrote.
The royal expert also said that people close to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have credited Kate Middleton and her family for pulling back and calming down a fiery Prince William over the years.
Tominey also said that Prince William’s campaigning approach is markedly different from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
“Those closest to him insist that the last thing he wants to be is a ‘preaching Prince.’ Prince William has 'no interest in telling people how to live their lives' and is 'realistic,’” she said.
Meanwhile, Prince William also made headlines this week after he and Middleton stepped in for Queen Elizabeth to host the visiting leader at Buckingham Palace.
The queen is still very much willing and able to perform her royal duties. But since she’s 94 years old, she’s at risk for COVID-19. As such, she hasn’t made public appearances other than those with a small group of her family members.
On Tuesday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge hosted a visit of the President of the Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, and his wife Olena.
Photos from the meeting show Prince William and Middleton chatting and smiling from ear to ear while sitting a few feet away from Ukraine’s first couple.
According to People, this week’s engagement marked the first time that an audience was welcomed into the palace since the queen left in mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Prince William and Middleton stepping in for the queen also show that they are becoming more involved with the monarchy and preparing for their roles.
