Keeping Up with the Kardashians has been circling the drain for quite some time now, so it was hardly surprising when the famous family decided to pull the plug over the show after season 20. The recently surfaced Season 19 teaser failed to pique viewers' interest because, for a major portion of the filming, the Kardashians were in quarantine, meaning, there weren’t a lot of things happening in the show.
On top of that, KUWTK fans had already seen all those stories on social media. A Reddit thread entitled, "Kardashians Tackle Pregnancy, COVID & More This Season | KUWTK | E!" points out that the show didn't always have such a long lag time between filming and airing with one commentator recalling that they used to air events 3 to 4 months after actually taking place in the earlier season, which the user suggests was "solid."
"Now it’s 7-9 months after," the commenter wrote. To make things worse, the Kardashian-Jenner clan tends to post everything on social media, leaving little to no imagination on what they are going to show. Other fans' comments coincided with earlier remarks about the production schedule taking the fun out of watching the whole drama play out on the show.
The rumor mill starts churning out speculations while the show is still filming, and by the time the show airs, what was filmed becomes old news. Cheatsheet ShowBiz explained this with an example of Kim and Kanye's recent issues that are widely known by now. Fans will find out what Kim thinks about these issues if she allowed it to be filmed for the show, but by the time those events air on the network, fans already know that KimYe survived yet another difficult situation.
As a result, whatever drama arises from their arguments, does not interest fans anymore because there are no stakes. Fans are neither concerned nor wondering if the couple will break up because they have already been treated to 9 months worth of Instagram pictures that show the two together.
Social media platforms, including Instagram, take a lot of surprises out of KUWTK. This wasn't the case when the show first aired because Instagram didn't exist at the time. Instagram was officially launched in 2010, while Kim and her other sisters started filming for the show in 2007. Now the sisters are all social media influencers and all over the platform.
KUWTK fans think their posting on social media ruins the whole idea of having a reality show, and they are no longer excited about the teaser. Some even suggest that the producers are struggling to make up storylines. One fan points out about Malika Haqq's appearance in the trailer, noting that it makes them think they have nothing more to show them.
