The Prince of Wales is reputed to be one of the calmest and understanding members of the royal family. As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex bid farewell to the royal house, royal family members turned their backs on the Sussex couple – but as per reports, Prince Charles was the only one who kept backing up the estranged family emotionally and financially during their most difficult phase.
However, even the coolest person’s head may be blown off sometimes with fuming anger. It’s not hidden from the world that Princess Diana's marriage to the Prince of Wales began crashing just weeks after the royal wedding nuptials were over.
Their relationship was always turbulent but the royal couple managed to stretch it out to 15 years long. The rifts summed up and Prince Charles and Princess Diana ultimately decided to call it quits in 1996.
With his book ‘Charles — The Man Who Will Be King’, Howard Hodgson shed light on the incredible and trustworthy relationship of the Prince and Princess of Wales with Prince’s aide, Michael Colborne during the early days of their marriage.
As per a controversial excerpt in the book in her journey from London to Balmoral, Princess Diana laid out all her bitterness and complaints about her marriage in front of Colborne in distress. It happened when it hadn’t even been 2 full months since their wedding. Colborne was more like a common close friend, even Charles would turn to him for advice to get things sorted in his marriage. After his return to Scotland, Charles also discussed his failing marriage with Colborne.
Hodgson goes on to write that things didn’t get better that day and Charles got into a squabble with Diana one more time. In the wake of the slanging match, “the Prince tossed Diana’s wedding ring at Colborne in the dark drive as he prepared to leave for London with the Prince.”
Prince Charles has totally flown off the handle “rounded on Colborne with an explosion of hot temper” regarding his Range Rover’s carpet - that was really unprecedented for him to do. That didn’t stop there, in the following years, the royal couple continued to struggle to find peace and Colborne was caught up between them way too many times.
Ultimately in the year 1984, 3 years after Diana’s marriage, Colborne put off his royal service hat due to the couple’s increasing tension. Charles and Diana's relationship was always on the rope of tension, but they never let the controversies affect their kids.
