Australian singer Helen Reddy died at the age of 78. The singer's children took social media to announce the news. The singer was well known for her work such as I Am Woman from I Don't Know How to Love Him album released in 1972.
The singer was diagnosed with a group of conditions called Dementia back in 2015. Reddy has been kept in a nursing home of Los Angeles, where she took her last breath. The singer's children Traci Wald Donat, who is a television director, and Jordan Sommers, who is a television producer announced their deep sadness on Sept. 29.
"She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, and a truly formidable woman. Our hearts are broken. But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever," they wrote in a joint statement on social media.
Jeff Wald, who worked as her former manager and was married to her for over a decade took Instagram to express his sadness. He started the lengthy post while mentioning that Reddy was with him for 18 years in wedlock and mother of his two children.
The 76-year-old further wrote that Reddy passed away peacefully and suddenly at Motion Picture and Television Retirement Home. He revealed that it was difficult initially after their divorce but eventually they became friends all over again.
He acknowledged there were many good and bad times in their life but mostly they spent a good time together. Wald said that life is short and precious while he urged everyone to not hold any grudges against people and tell people openly that you care about them.
The Helen Reddy Show star hails from Melbourne, Australia, and came to America when she was 24-year-old. She came with her three-year-old in the United States and became the world's best-selling singer for two consistent years, 1973 to 1974. The singer also earned a GRAMMY for her 1971 release, I Am a Woman.
Reddy also developed her image in the music industry as a feminist icon when she mentioned God in her acceptance speech. The entertainer had major hits in her portfolio that includes Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady, Leave Me Alone, Angie Baby, and Delta Dawn.
Reddy also became successful in television and movies as she was nominated as New Star of the Year by Golden Globe for her work in Airport 1975. Filmmaker Unjoo Moon also mourned the demise and said that they shared amazing friendship and praised for the amazing legacy she created.
