Many were left stunned when Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle announced in January that they were turning their back from the royal family. There were many questions as to why they would want to step away from royal life, and one expert says she knows the turning point that led the couple to make the decision.

According to Express UK, it was the 10 day trip to South Africa that created such an impression on the couple and made them want a more simple life. The observation comes from Christine Ross when she was a guest in the podcast, Pod Save the Queen. Ross claims that the down to earth moments with the people of the continent may have sparked a desire in the couple to stop living the glamorous wife of a royal. During the trip, Meghan seemed to have enjoyed wearing cheap clothes and shoes and dancing with the people. It's a shout out to her old style, composed of monochromatic colors.

Ever since she became a royal, she has had to change her fashion style and adhere to the rules of the monarchy. In their Africa trip, aside from the speeches they gave, Meghan gave a speech where she called herself a sister to the women there. They were able to make a connection there without the restraints of being royalty.

This may have had a big impact on the couple, and led them to make such a drastic decision to step back from being senior members of the royal family.

The couple is now living in LA after moving there from Canada. They seem to be adapting well to their new life. They have been spotted walking their dogs in the area and they even took the time to volunteer for a charity. When they found out that the drivers in Project Angel Food were overwhelmed, they readily asked if they could help. They enjoyed it so much that they have decided to volunteer again.

But it seems that the couple is not willing to work with tabloids anymore. The Guardian reports  that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have written letters to several tabloids and said that they would no longer be responding to any questions that would come from their journalists. They are accusing the tabloids of offering clickbait articles that distort the truth and that there will now be zero engagement with them.
