Portia de Rossi just proved that she would always have Ellen DeGeneres’ back.
On Monday, the new season of Ellen Show premiered and de Rossi stayed on the set of the talk show. While she didn’t make an appearance on camera, the Scandal star, reportedly, waited for DeGeneres’ hosting gig to end.
And after the comedian walked off the stage, de Rossi and the other Ellen Show staff clapped loudly. A source told People that it was such an emotional moment for everyone.
Weeks ago, de Rossi also posted a cryptic message on her Instagram account saying that she’s standing by her wife. Back then, DeGeneres was plagued with criticisms and claims that she’s a mean girl and a bully.
This week, DeGeneres also addressed the controversies surrounding Ellen Show and herself. The funny woman tried to make light of the situation by incorporating jokes into her explanation.
“How was everybody’s summer? Good, yeah? Mine was great. Super terrific. Let me give you some advice out there if anybody's thinking of changing their title or giving yourself a nickname, do not go with the 'be kind' lady. Don’t do it,” DeGeneres initially said.
However, some former employees who complained that there’s a toxic work environment on Ellen Show slammed DeGeneres over her recent explanations.
“Not only did Ellen turn my trauma, turn our traumas, into a joke, she somehow managed to make this about her,” one former employee told BuzzFeed News.
“When she said, ‘Oh, my summer was great’ and that was supposed to be funny I thought, ‘It’s funny that you had a rough summer because everyone was calling out all of the allegations of your toxic work environment and now you’re the one suffering?” another former employee said.
DeGeneres also reacted to the claims that she’s not as kind as she seems. She said that it’s hard to convince people that she’s kind for 17 years when she’s not.
The comedian said that who is she on television is who she is in real life. But just like everyone else, she also has moods, gets angry, and becomes impatient.
During one of her interviews, DeGeneres also teased the guest by urging her not to look her in the eye. Last summer, there were claims that the comedian doesn’t want her staff to look her in eye.
