The commonwealth nations have been a source of pride for the British royal family, the power and influence they hold over 56 nations have stayed strong throughout history. But with the current political climate, the world is in, it is only a matter of time before several of the nations part of the commonwealth will call for their complete independence from the British monarchy.

The call of Barbados to become a Republic nation has awoken several of the nations near it, but as well as the nations far from it.

The announcement of the Barbadian government to forfeit Queen Elizabeth II as its head-of-state is a wake-up call for the small island nation. A wake-up call that a new future will be coming.

Despite the belief that this news is sudden, emerging facts point otherwise. The statement released by the Palace regarding Barabdos’s announcements reveals that the plans have been long in talks and that the Queen has already known the sentiments of the Barbadian government.

Royal commentator and Governor of Edinburgh, Alastair Bruce said on an interview with Sky News that the Queen is given no choice regarding the situation.

Mr. Bruce continued on to say that the Queen will quietly accede to the choice of the Barbadian people.

Barbados Prime Minister, Mia Mottley expressed in her released statement that it was time to leave the ‘colonial past’ behind, urging the people of Barbados to agree with her feelings.

The Governor-General, who is the Queen’s representative in Barbados has conveyed the message to the Queen, which the Queen has graciously agreed to as well.

According to the Palace, the Queen has no problem of stepping down from her head-of-state title in Barbados, she believes that the Barbadian people and the nation is in great hands with Prime Minister Mottley.

Mia Mottley was elected Prime Minister of Barbados two years ago and is the first female Prime Minister of the small island nation.

During Prime Minister Mottley’s office, Barbados has become a successful country.

Considering this huge changes for the royal institution, it is not clear whether other commonwealth nations will follow Barbados’s actions. But it has been said that Jamaica will follow suit and also regain a republic nation status.

Barbados aims to become a republic nation on its 55th year of independence, which is on November 2021. No word has been released whether the Queen or any royal member will attend the celebrations.
