Drew Barrymore is all set to kick off her upcoming talk show with her former Charlie's Angels co-stars and good friends Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz. The 45-year-old actress can't stop gushing over her special 20-year-old friendship with the duo.
Touting their appearances as the inaugural guests on her talk show as a "big deal," Barrymore told ET's Kevin Frazier that she felt she was in a pressure cooker when it came to deciding her first guests. She started crying when she thought about inviting Diaz and Liu to her show.
"It felt so right," she told Frazier. She went to explain that she made a video, wherein she got on one knee, and cried, making it look like a marriage proposal to Diaz and Liu. She recalled the time making Charlie's Angels movies with the actresses saying her favorite memory is how the trio became so close.
She describes them as a tripod and the three little bears that meet and became magnets, gushing that they are still here together. Barrymore says she, Liu, and Diaz experienced gain, loss, birth, death, love, life and have lived all the different themes that life has to offer, adding that they want to explore that on her show.
Barrymore thought the two women with whom she has been doing all that for the past 20 years are the best choice for her show, "they're my girlfriends," she says. The actress explains that she doesn't need to be formal with them, but inviting them to the show still felt like a big deal, and really special.
Talking about inviting Liu and Diaz to be on her show, Barrymore reveals that another longtime friend, Adam Sandler, will also be making an appearance. Comparing the first day with a love letter, Barrymore said she is excited about some of the planned surprises they have planned, ET reported.
The first week of Barrymore's show will be graced by Billy Porter, Tyra Banks, Charlize Theron, Christian Siriano, Gabrielle Union, Jane Fonda, Billy Eichner, and Reese Witherspoon. While fans may think she runs in similar circles as her celebrity guests, the mom of two clarified that she actually does not hang out with a lot of famous people.
Despite growing up in Hollywood, she admitted that she doesn't hang out with "fabulous people" and refrains from attending events and dinner parties. Barrymore said she still has the same friends she has had for 30 and 40 years. The bubbly actress said she was as excited to meet and speak with these celebrities as if she wasn't in this industry.
