Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II are spending their lockdown period together at Windsor Castle. However, there is one member of the Royal Family who has stepped into Philip’s role post his retirement.
While the Duke of Edinburgh has been credited with several achievements as a royal, his most famous one has to been to set up the DofE or Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. The award inspires the youth of the country to get engaged in their communities, as well as, imbibe the necessary skills for work and life.
There are three distinct tiers in this award scheme namely gold, silver, and bronze. Each year, thousands of young people in the age group of 14-24 accomplish one of these three levels.
However, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the award ceremony for people entitled to the gold award could not be hosted as planned. Prince Edward, the Duke’s youngest son, however, has come forward on social media and congratulated all those winners who achieved the gold level.
The Twitter account of the Royal Family uploaded a photograph of the patriarch’s youngest son congratulating the achievers of DofE. The tweet also mentioned that while the official award ceremony could not be held this spring, winners should “take a moment to celebrate.”
In his message, Edward, The Earl of Wessex said how inspired he felt after listening to some of the fabulous stories about the participants who have made efforts to stand out during the current health crisis.
Prince Philip and Her Majesty’s youngest son also mentioned that he is aware that the achievers are using their “volunteering skills and life experiences” and working hard in their local communities. He was touched by the achievers’ ability to support isolated and vulnerable people.
The Prince took the help of some of the celebrities for this prestigious virtual awards ceremony. These celebrities included Aljaž Škorjanec and Janette Manrara, the Strictly Come Dancing stars and Marvin Humes, Express reports.
.Meanwhile, Showbiz Cheat Sheet reports that while Philip was not stunned that Prince Charles was having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, he was shocked that his son wished to leave his wife for his girlfriend.
While the Duke of Edinburgh allegedly did not have an issue with his eldest son cheating on the late Princess Diana, he was never in favor of the Prince of Wales choosing his mistress over his wife. It is reported that when such a possibility became imminent, the patriarch of the Royal Family started corresponding regularly with his daughter-in-law.
Prince Philip reportedly wrote to his daughter-in-law that Charles was foolish to risk everything with his mistress “for a man in his position.” He also mentioned that he could not imagine any person in their right frame of mental state leaving her for another woman.
