The Atlantic Magazine published a column stating that the Nobel Peace Prize should be ‘ended’ in a bid to criticize the decision to nominate President Donald Trump for the honor twice.
Graeme Wood, The Atlantic columnist stitched up an article that has spurred up the tension among people for and against Donald Trump.
It all comes in the wake of Trump’s second Nobel Peace Prize nomination for brokering the peace agreement between the nations of Kosovo and Serbia. On Friday, the nomination for the POTUS was given by the member of Swedish Parliament Magnus Jacobsson along with nominations for two European nations. The agreement between Kosovo and Serbia was signed last week in the presence of the President at the White House.
Trump’s first nomination was given earlier this week by the member of Norwegian Parliament, Christian Tybring-Gjedde for his contributory efforts in the monumental deal between the United Arab Emirates and Isreal for peace, prosperity, and economic development.
With the first nomination, eyebrows were raised and the second nomination has come as proof that many are discomforted with the possibility that may be next year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
Wood penned down his opinion of the nomination in the "opinion column" of The Atlantic magazine. As per the writer, the set of Nobel laureates’ achievements is “so spotty” and the rationales behind their selection are “eclectic.” Via his writing, Wood suggested the Nobel committee to “take a long break” to examine the coherence of the category of peace to be recognized.
Wood further added on to say, ‘Peace had its chance, and blew it. The Trump nomination...helps show why.’
Just a week before, the publication published a report stating that President disparaged dead US military servicemen calling them “losers” and “suckers." For the first anti-Trump report, the publication got a huge amount of support from other publishing houses, but this time it is serving an entirely different purpose of displaying Trump's approval among people.
The Atlantic's column has come as a means for opposition to see how the public is responding to Trump's nomination for the honor. Twitter was sent into a frenzy with many posting tweets that suggest that The Atlantic has hidden motivations behind their anti-Trump approach and articles. One Twitter user wrote that The Atlantic didn’t cover the news when Barack Obama was nominated.
Right now, every new moment in the country is being linked with the election and it’s not yet very obviously certain who’s exactly leading.
