Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently signed a multiyear deal with Netflix.
But before this happened, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex first went around looking for major companies that they can work with.
While speaking with CNBC, Netflix co-founder, Reed Hastings said that he’s excited to have Prince Harry and Markle on board. He also called the Sussexes smart.
“They’re smart. They were shopping around across all the major companies and I think we really put together the best complete package. We are going to do a wide range of entertainment with them,” he said.
Hastings refused to share details about Prince Harry and Markle’s upcoming projects with Netflix. But he revealed that these programs will be released next year.
“I can’t tell you any more than that about it at this point but I think it will be some of the most exciting, the most viewed content next year,” he said.
Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos also released a statement after Prince Harry and Markle inked their new deal.
“We're incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere,” he said
Meanwhile, some sources claimed that Prince Harry and Markle were also in talks with NBC Universal before they signed a deal with Netflix. As of late, it is still unclear if their discussions would materialize into an actual partnership.
Prince Harry also has a contract with Apple TV+ after he teamed up with Oprah Winfrey for a documentary on mental health. Markle, on the other hand, voiced for Elephants, which is a documentary on Disney+.
In related news, there are claims that the royal family is looking over their shoulders after learning about Prince Harry and Markle’s deal with Netflix.
While speaking with Town & Country, royal expert Victoria Murphy said that the royal family hopes that Prince Harry and Markle would stick to their promise of always upholding the values of Queen Elizabeth in everything that they do.
“Because, while they have no way of controlling the Sussexes, the actions of this couple will inevitably still reflect on the institution,” she said.
However, there are some concerns that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex won’t uphold the queen’s values because they didn’t even inform her about the Netflix deal beforehand.
