Opening up about her experience with contracting the coronavirus several weeks ago, Jillian Michaels talked about why it is imperative for people to avoid going to the gym amid the still-raging coronavirus pandemic. The 49-year-old fitness trainer said she was lucky to have contracted the virus as being healthy as her fitness expedited her recovery process.
During her appearance on Fox Business on Tuesday, Michaels advised those afraid of contracting COVID-19 to avoid going to the gym, admitting that she let her guard down. She confessed that she has remained tight-lipped about her coronavirus experience and refrained from talking about it publicly.
Michaels went on to reveal that she contracted COVID-19 from a very close friend weeks ago, during the interview. She attributed her getting on the other side of coronavirus quickly to her being healthy, noting that some people aren't that lucky.
She warned gym goers of going to a public gym, deeming it a place where they are more likely to contract COVID-19. Although she would have loved to admit that going to a public gym isn't risky in terms of getting COVID, Michaels said that’s not the case.
Michaels went on to reveal that she had let her guard down for just about an hour with one of her best friends who does her hair and makeup and ended up contracting the deadly pathogen. "It’s just that simple," she added.
She said her friend did not know she had COVID-19 when they met up, and they both found out they had contracted the virus days after the meeting. Speaking about going to the gym, The Biggest Loser alum said if a gym goer isn't wearing a mask and the other person isn't wearing a mask, and they are unaware of having COVID-19, the environment would be very risky.
She advised those afraid of getting coronavirus to refrain from going to the gym. Gyms across the United States were shuttered earlier this year in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and to restrict its spread. Gym chains such as Gold's Gym and 24 Hour Fitness were financially affected due to the lockdown.
There have been about 6,336,300 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States as of Tuesday, and the virus has claimed at least 189,300 lives, according to a New York Times database.
New York is gearing up to re-open public gyms. Michael's warning coincides with what Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson said when he revealed he and his family tested positive for COVID-19, noting that they got it from close family friends.
