Whispers of the royal coronation happening soon have been circulating feverishly, in a time where things are so unlikely; questions of the Queen's health is a big topic. The Queen who is currently in Balmoral in Scotland is rumored to not be going back to Buckingham Palace anytime soon. Prince Charles, on the other hand is back in Clarence House in London and has resumed face to face engagements despite being diagnosed with COVID a few months ago.
The succession to the throne of the British monarchy is not complicated. As Prince Charles, who has been known as the heir apparent for decades now, will clearly inherit the throne.
Rumors of Prince Charles choosing to abdicate and giving the crown directly to Prince William has also been up in the airs.
Prince Charles has been the longest heir apparent to the throne in the history of British monarchy, his mother, the current sovereign, has been the longest-serving monarch.
Being heir apparent also comes with a lot of responsibilities, upon his accession to the throne, Prince Charles titles will be dropped, his Dukedom in Cornwall, as well as Rothesay, will fall immediately to Prince William’s lap.
But there is one more title that Prince Charles may be able to keep and won’t fall directly to Prince William. The title ‘Prince of Wales’ is a title given by the reigning sovereign is he/she chooses to do so.
Prince Charles was honored that titled when he was just 10 years old by the Queen. Prince William has yet to acquire the title, but if Prince Charles, once King, chooses to do so it will be Prince William’s.
There is also the title of which Prince Charles' current wife will hold, Camilla Parker-Bowles is known today as the Duchess of Cornwall and Duchess of Rothesay, but she does not hold the title ‘Princess of Wales’.
Currently, the late Princess Diana still holds the title. The Princess is known as the Princess of Wales. After the bitter divorce between the two royals, Diana’s ‘HRH’ title was removed but as a sign of respect for the mother of the heir apparent, Prince William and Prince Harry, her title as the ‘Princess of Wales’ was kept.
According to royal experts, Camilla will be put in pressure once Charles becomes King. It is apparent that Camilla will most likely not take the title ‘Queen Consort’ and will stick to ‘Princess Consort’ instead.
