Harry and Meghan Markle took a leap of faith when the couple decided to leave their royal duties and pursue a life ‘financially independent’ from the royal funds. Now, the two are currently living in the United States and struck a mega-buck deal with streaming giant ‘Netflix’. The streaming giant was said to have shelled out $150 million for a multiyear contract with the couple.
News of the Netflix deal with the Sussex’ shocked everyone, but what’s more questionable is the ludicrous amount they were paid and yet Harry and Meghan did not pay their debt to the UK taxpayers.
A call for action to urge the Sussex’s to pay their $3 million debt for refurbishing their house, Frogmore Cottage in London circulated this week.
Just in today, the office of the Sussex’s issued a statement regarding the payments for the refurbishments of the cottage. According to the Sussex’ office the couple has generously repaid their debt.
"A contribution has been made to the Sovereign Grant by The Duke of Sussex. This contribution, as originally offered by Prince Harry, has fully covered the necessary renovation costs of Frogmore Cottage, a property of Her Majesty The Queen, and will remain the UK residence of The Duke and his family”, written in the statement released by the Sussex camp.
The cottage was loaned to the couple by the Queen after they were married, wherein the couple graciously accepted and resided in the cottage for not longer than 8 months before their exit.
Insiders revealed that the couple flipped the entire house to Meghan’s liking and the Duchess even chose, vegan, toxin-free paint. The grand adjustments done to Frogmore Cottage gathered a huge backlash for the Sussex’s.
Harry and Meghan left the royal family last January 2020 and have since been living in the US. They were situated in Los Angeles in the first few months they lived in America but now the couple has recently purchased a $14.7 million estate in Montecito, Santa Barbara, California.
The move by the couple is influenced by their desire to create a media production company, thus choosing to live in an area not too far from Hollywood.
Neighbors of the couple are elite celebrities and business moguls. The two apparently chose the area as well for its unparalleled privacy.
If they ever choose to go back to the UK, Harry and Meghan will still be allowed to stay at Frogmore Cottage.
