Demi Lovato just broke her silence over her ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama’s recent engagement to Amanda Pacheco.
During her interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the “Stone Cold” singer reminded her fans that she and Valderrama are no longer in each other’s lives. As such, the latter has the right to get married to whoever he pleases.
Lovato also said that she’s happy for her ex-boyfriend. She also said that she wishes him nothing but the best.
After briefly talking about Valderrama’s engagement, Lovato talked about her decision to split from the “Minority Report” star.
“I think that I needed that because I needed to learn to be OK on my own. When you get into a relationship with somebody at that young of an age and then you spend six years with somebody, you don’t really get to learn about yourself,” she said.
Lovato and Valderrama started dating in 2010, and they were together for six years. In June 2016, they released a joint statement announcing their decision to split.
The former couple said that their decision to go their separate ways was difficult for them. However, they realized that being best friends is what’s most beneficial for them.
Two years after their split, Valderrama was photographed visiting Lovato after she suffered from a near-fatal drug overdose. At that time, a source told Us Weekly that the two were still in constant communication with each other.
However, Lovato and Valderrama’s closeness did not encourage them to get back together. Less than two years after the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer’s overdose, Valderrama proposed to Pacheco on New Year’s Day this year.
Lovato is also dating her boyfriend, Max Ehrich, and they have been on self-quarantine together. Weeks before their relationship was made public, the singer made headlines after she revealed that she’s bisexual.
During her interview on “Radio Andy,” Lovato told Andy Cohen that she’s still figuring her sexuality out. But in 2017, she finally decided to tell her parents that she’s interested in dating women.
“It was actually emotional but really beautiful. After everything was done, I was like shaking and crying. I just felt overwhelmed. I have such incredible parents. They were so supportive,” she said.
Lovato’s dad was reportedly not surprised when she came out of the closet. He also referenced his daughter’s song “Cool For The Summer,” which became one of the most popular gay tracks of its time.
At the end of the day, Lovato’s parents are supportive of her choices. And they simply want to see her happy.
