In an attempt to defend his role on Two and a Half Men, actor Jon Cryer has fired back at U.S. Representative Matt Gaetz over his remarks that suggested Charlie Sheen was solely responsible for the success of the hit television sitcom that aired on CBS for 12 years.

Taking to his Twitter account on Saturday, Cryer accused Gaetz of endorsing his Democratic opponent Phil Ehr. The actor slammed Gaetz for inviting a white supremacist to the State of the Union in a bid to intimidate a federal witness while endorsing a sociopathic extremist, who cheered the death of migrants for Congress.

"I just donated to his opponent @PhilEhr," Cryer tweeted. Taking notice, Gaetz tweeted Charlie Sheen totally carried Two and a Half Men. Cryer fired back asking  Gaetz if that is why the show last 4 more years and he won an Emmy for Best Actor in a Comedy.

Gaetz responded asking what's an Emmy? saying it is an award Hollywood gives itself, while he wins elections. Cryer, 55, clarified over the weekend that his tweet to Gaetz wasn't to demean Charlie, and described him as "undeniably the star of the show, and a fantastic actor."

Cryer went on to say there were more highs than lows despite Sheen's issues but insisted that it is not fair to say he carried a show that lasted four years without him. The Twitter fight began when Cryer shared a series of tweets, calling out the 38-year-old Republican congressman, who he accused of endorsing Gaetz's Democratic opponent, Phil Ehr.

Gaetz, who openly supports President Donald Trump didn't shy away from firing back by suggesting that Charlie Sheen was a better actor than him as he carried the popular American sitcom Two and a Half Men. As expected, Cryer, who starred in all 12 seasons of the show didn't take this remark too well.

Two and a Half Men starred Cryer and Sheen as brothers, Alan and Charlie, but the show went on hiatus in Jan. 2011 when Sheen entered rehab. The Hot Shots actor was fired following a public disastrous meltdown that comprised insulting Chuck Lorre.

Sheen's character was eliminated from the next season, with Ashton Kutcher joining the show. Kutcher played a billionaire businessman, who buys Sheen's house after his death. The show went off the air in 2015. While Cryer won two Primetime Emmy Awards, Sheen was nominated four times for an Emmy, but never won.
