Not only is Joe Biden leading over Donald Trump, but the former vice president's lead is the steadiest on record. With the Election Day just around the corner both, the president, as well as his opponent is taking jabs at each other during their campaigns and speeches, with the president claiming to be way better than the Democratic presidential nominees in terms of helping America revive from the coronavirus pandemic infused economic crisis and job losses.
Much to his chagrin, Trump is still lagging behind Biden as the new CBS News/YouGov polls reveal that the former veep continues to maintain his grip on the impending race for president. Biden is leading with 52 percent compared to Trump 42 percent among likely voters across the nation.
On top of that, Biden has a 50 percent to 44 percent edge over the president in the crucial battleground state of Wisconsin, where Trump will be visiting later this week. Biden's 10 points and 6 point dominance coincide with CBS News/YouGov polled the contests before the party conventions.
The polls reflect a race that refuses to budge even after two conventions, demonstration, and unrest in several cities over police brutality and as America combat the coronavirus pandemic. In other words, the stability of this race surpasses all polling records since 1940.
On an average, Biden holds a 7 point advantage over Trump in polls taken since the beginning of 2020. This coincides with his current lead of 8 points in an average of recent polls. This isn't much different from the 6 point advantage Biden had over Trump earlier this year.
It is also worth noting that Biden's average has neither gone about 10 points nor dropped below 4 or 5 points, making it a remarkably narrow range. Previous nineteen elections since 1940 show that the average range has been double that from Jan. of the election year through Sept. of the same year.
This means that the range in polls in an average election has been about 14 to 16 points, based on the polling average calculation method. Despite having nearly as many unprecedented events as in the 1980 campaign, the 2020 presidential election hasn't featured a wild movement in terms of polls.
Biden has been leading not just nationally, but in crucial swing states as well. The former vice president has consistently been leading in states totaling 270 electoral votes, including states Hillary Clinton won against Trump in 2016, along with Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida, and Arizona.
