The Queen’s children have many successful milestones in their life, as royals, the Queen’s children have been a great example for the next generation of royals. It is said that the Queen, although keeps mum about her favorites, firmly favors Sophie Wessex.
According to sources close to the Queen, Sophie Wessex is on the Queen’s good side. As the wife of his youngest child, Prince Edward, Sophie has become one of the Queens many trusted royals.
During the pandemic, the Queen and Prince Phillip who are now both in their 90’s have been doing less royal work and the Queen has trusted Sophie to take over some of her royal duties.
This may not be something of a shock for Sophie as soon as she will be the same rank as the Queen. How? Let us find out.
Prince Phillip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, is also known as Duke of Edinburgh, which makes the Queen also a titled Duchess. Their son Prince Edward, who married Sophie, are both known as Earl and Countess of Wessex.
But this title of Edward and Sophie has confused many people. As a direct child of the reigning sovereign, Edward should have been given the title of Duke when he got married to Sophie. But due to all the titles being taken already, Edward made no fuss and agreed to carry out a lower title of Earl and for his wife as Countess.
Now, when Prince Phillip passes away, the Duke of Edinburgh will no longer be used. According to experts, this title is usually reserved for the youngest child of the current ruler but because the Queen’s father gifted this title to Phillip, the Queen could not give the title to Edward.
So, when Phillip passes away, this title will be given to Prince Edward, which will make him Duke of Edinburgh and making Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, like that of the Queen.
This comes to no surprise to experts as it has been Edward’s duty to take over the duties of Prince Phillip since his retirement last 2017.
Edward has since picked up the reigns of the ‘Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation’, which was started by Prince Phillip.
The Royal Family website explains, “The Earl of Wessex has been deeply committed to the organization's work since achieving his own Gold Award in 1986. The following year, His Royal Highness became a UK Trustee of the charity and of the International Award Association, and was chair of its International Council for 17 years.”
A royal source has also revealed that plans for Prince Edward to take on the title, Duke of Edinburgh has already been approved by the royal council.
