As the talks of throne accession intensify, many issues have come up from the deep dark pool of topics for the royal family. The accession of Prince Charles as King after the Queen will pass is a topic that the palace has been preparing for. The problem lies within the numerous titles that the Prince will lose upon inheriting the throne and the titles of which are to be given to his eldest son and next-in-line to the throne, Prince William.

Right now, Prince Charles is known as the Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay. These titles are reserved for the oldest son of the reigning monarch.

Once Prince Charles ascends to the throne, he will have to drop all of this title and will be known as King Charles or a different regal name if he chooses. His wife, the Duchess of Cornwall and Duchess of Rothesay, Camilla Parker-Bowles, will also have her titles dropped.

Although automatically as Charles becomes King, Camilla was to take on the title ‘Queen Consort’. But many have protested against this as the title should be originally given to Charles's first wife, the late Princess Diana. Camilla is understood to take on the title ‘Princess Consort’ instead.

Charles is also known as the Prince of Wales but according to the experts, the titles are only to be given as a gift by the ruling monarch, which means that Prince William will not automatically receive this title.

Prince William will have the title of the Duke of Cornwall and Rothesay upon his father’s accession, he will also retain his title of Duke of Cambridge.

Kate Middleton, William’s other half will also automatically receive the title Duchess of Cornwall and Rothesay, as well as Cambridge.

Charles will also lose his access to the Duchy of Cornwall, which is relatively high, instead, that Duchy will be William’s and Kate’s once the succession happens. This will make both William and Kate richer.

The Duchy of Cornwall is one of the biggest Duchy and was created by King Edward to provide the needs for the heir apparent. The Duchy compromises 135,000 acres of land.

According to reports, the Duchy was able to generate a $23 million income for Prince Charles back in 2017.

As for Prince Harry, Charles’ youngest son, he will no longer be entitled to a new royal title and will keep his title the Duke of Sussex only. He also will not be part of the Duchy anymore.
