Princess Diana got into a few relationships after her divorce from Prince Charles was finalized.
During a previous interview, Princess Diana’s former royal butler, Paul Burrell detailed the late royal’s relationship with Dr. Hasnat Khan and Dodi Al-Fayed.
According to Burrell, Princess Diana was so in love with Khan and thought that he’s the one. However, their relationship didn’t progress because the doctor wanted to stay private.
“Hasnat was truly the love of her life. She adored him and if she had returned from Paris, I believe their love affair would have been rekindled,” Burrell told Life & Style.
“She told me, ‘He stared into my soul, and I knew he was the one,’” he added.
Hasnat also adored the Princess of Wales. And he also wanted to be with her. But after Princess Diana pressured her for an engagement, Khan told her that he didn’t want to become a public individual.
“He didn’t want to become Mr. Princess Diana and lose his identity. She told me that they had a screaming match and parted company,” Burrell said.
Shortly after their split, Princess Diana got into a relationship with Al-Fayed. Burrell said that the mom of two saw Al-Fayed as her rebound.
“She was on the rebound from her relationship with Hasnat. He was her true love,” he said.
While speaking with Daily Mail, writer Petronella Wyatt echoed Burrell’s claims by saying that Princess Diana didn’t have any intention to wed Al-Fayed. However, Wyatt said that the Princess of Wales didn’t want to settle down with Al-Fayed because she was still in love with Prince Charles.
“I always thought, and so did friends of both her and Charles, that she remained a little in love with him. I never thought she was in love with Dodi Fayed. He was a bad joke in London. She told the diarist Taki she had no intention of marrying him. That was a fantasy of his father’s,” she said.
Princess Diana’s friend, Lady Annabel Goldsmith that Princess Diana was never serious about Al-Fayed. When she asked Princess Diana if she was planning on marrying Al-Fayed or eloping with him, the late royal called the idea silly.
“I would need marriage like a rash on my face,” she told Lady Annabel.
Goldsmith explained that the rash comment must have meant that Princess Diana was not that serious to marry Al-Fayed.
