The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step down from their senior royal duties in the past months have created a big confusion in the Royal family. According to many sources, the reason behind the couple quitting the royal institution was for many reasons, but one of their biggest concern was their son’s protection.
Archie Mountbatten-Windsor is the son of Prince Harry and ex-actress Meghan Markle, the tot came into the lives of the royal last 2018. At that time the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were still in aide of the Royal family.
But due to the negative publicity that has bombarded the couple ever since their announcement of their engagement in 2017, they have been planning to leave the royal family ever since.
In 2018, before Archie was born, sources close to the couple divulged one particular secret of the couple. Sources say that Harry and Meghan Markle wanted to name Archie a more powerful name, something that was going to be remembered even without the young royal carrying a title.
"They thought about Archibald for all of one second… He was always going to be little Archie”, a close friend of the couple revealed.
Archibald would have been a great name for Archie, and it also confirms with the couple’s plan to resign from their royal duties even early on in their service of the royal institution.
Currently, Archie is carrying no title, although this may change sooner or later after the ascension of Prince Charles to the throne. Archie will be the sixth-in-line to the throne when this happens.
Rumors of the Sussex’ quitting their royal duties were up in the airs late 2019 after it was revealed that the couple was not to attend the Queen’s annual winter holidays, which was attended by the entire royal family.
Instead, the couple opted to enjoy a private winter holiday in Vancouver Island, Canada, where the Sussex family stayed for over 3 months. At this time, Archie was still around 3 months.
The couple went back to the UK as it was finally confirmed by January 2020 that they were leaving the royal family. They returned to the UK without Archie to wrap up their last royal duties.
By March 2020 it was finalized, the Sussex’ were leaving the royal family and the UK. The Sandringham Summit, attended by the Queen, Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry happened wherein the head royals decided to strip off Harry and Meghan from their ‘HRH’ title.
Harry and Meghan are now living in America, in Santa Barbara, California, where they celebrated Archie’s 1st birthday and Meghan’s 39th.
