The British Monarchy has been one of the longest and steadiest royal institutions in the world. It has endured many disasters and accomplishes, and is one of the most colorfully historical families in the world.
Although it has been praise great in general, there are some shortcomings in the family. One of the many is the marriages the royals have had and are still in.
One of the highest-profile marriages in the entire world was between the second-in-line to the throne of the British monarchy, Prince Charles, and noble blood, Diana. Their love story’s evolvement was witnessed by many and it was one for the books.
The wedding between Prince Charles and Princess Diana happened in 1896 but in less than 10 years the two would be embroiled in a difficult divorce. In 1996, their divorce was finalized, less than a year before the unfortunate passing of Princess Diana.
Although the two seemed to be perfect for each other, both born into noble families and have been raised in a way similar together, their world would soon fall apart as their marriage became bitter.
The two became so bitter with each other, that many of their close friends noticed that the two dislike each other and did not want to be around each other.
Andre Morton, author of “Diana: Her True Story” wrote in his book Diana found her husband’s presence ‘upsetting and disturbing’.
"He, in turn, views his wife with indifference tinged with dislike. When a Sunday newspaper reported how the Prince had pointedly ignored her at a concert at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the Queen Mother's 90th birthday, she remarked to friends that she found their surprise rather odd. 'He ignores me everywhere and has done for a long time. He just dismisses me’”, Mr. Morton wrote.
The two who shared two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry endured their marriage for the sake of their children as well as to keep the name of the royal family clean.
Both parties were having affairs, with Prince Charles rekindling his relationship with Camilla Parker-Bowles, which he soon married in 2005. Princess Diana on the other hand, felt like she was trapped and resorted to having an affair as well.
Princess Diana was very close to both her sons, William and Harry and she was one of the few royals who was truly hands-on with her children.
The ‘People’s Princess’, a moniker the British people and the world gave to Diana, died in a car crash in 1997. The world still mourns her death today.
